Sunday September 14th - Barnstaple River swim

For North Devon Hospice - 10AM to 12 NOON

The River Swim is back!... Following last year’s success and nearly 100 exhilarated swimmers, this is our second open water swimming event and will again take place at high tide in the River Taw. The guys from Skern Lodge activity centre will again bring their vast experience of water security to make this another exciting and safe experience.

We offer 3 distances- half mile, 1 mile and 1.5 miles. Skern Lodge has coincided the start of the swim with high water in Barnstaple, this will again give the best water quality as the water will have just arrived fresh from the Atlantic, and swimmers will also be swimming with the tide, so you’ll again get a helping hand from the currents on their way to the finish line. We will also have marshals on the riverbanks, in kayaks and in the water so why not invite friends, family members or work colleagues to take on the Swim with you!

As you can appreciate, places are strictly limited for this unique event so get your application in quick! The funds you raise will go directly to North Devon Hospice, helping us to provide specialist care for local families affected by cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. Our support is provided entirely free of charge, but it costs us over £4 million each year to care in this way. We are extremely grateful for every ounce of support, and every pound you can help us raise.
So don’t hang around, please register online at and we will send you confirmation of your place, as well as sponsorship forms and all the information you need for the day.-or application form attached.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Barnstaple River Swim!
